VanDusen Botanical Garden is a strong choice if you want a Vancouver wedding videographer to film somewhere green, accessible, and away from the city's noise without actually leaving the city. Between the natural light, the water features, and the fact that ceremony and reception can both happen on-site, it removes a lot of the logistics that eat into your day. It's also one of the more genuinely accessible venues I've filmed at, which matters if mobility or sensory needs are part of your planning.

I filmed Lisha and Jon's wedding at VanDusen this year, with both the ceremony and reception on-site, and it has stuck with me as one of the best examples of what this venue actually offers a couple.

What Makes VanDusen a Good Wedding Venue?

Lisha and Jon wanted what I'd describe as a super living room. Somewhere comfortable, somewhere that felt like home instead of a formal event space. Their ceremony was near Heron Lake, which has this quiet fountain sound running under everything, and is surrounded by trees. It's a genuinely homely feeling for a ceremony spot.

The reception space gives couples a bare canvas they can shape into their own, and Lisha and Jon did exactly that. The whole day felt less like a produced event and more like a gathering of friends inside a garden.

On camera, VanDusen gives you something most Vancouver venues can't. Where a spot like Brock House or Swaneset Bay Resort leans more urban or semi-urban, VanDusen is full of plant life from all over the world, ponds, lily pads, tall flowering trees, bridges. It feels like a small retreat tucked inside the city, not a hike away from it.

Is VanDusen Accessible for Guests with Mobility or Sensory Needs?

This was on my radar going in, and it holds up. The pathways throughout the garden are wide, even where they're not paved, and there are ramps and accessible doorways with accessible door buttons in the right places. I've personally hauled a gear wagon weighing well over a hundred pounds through the site without issue, and if that can get through, a wheelchair generally can too. If a couple hires a planner, which Lisha and Jon did, that adds another layer of support for coordinating accessibility on the day.

What Should You Know Before Booking VanDusen?

It's a public garden, so other visitors are part of the reality of filming there. In practice, that means a few minor interruptions, someone crossing a bridge mid-shot, that kind of thing, and it's simple enough for us to guide around. It rarely disrupts the flow of the day in any real way.

One practical detail worth knowing: there's a site fee to be on the property, and that applies even if a photographer or videographer wants to scout the location ahead of time. Worth factoring into your planning if you're considering a walkthrough before the big day.

What Does a Wedding at VanDusen Actually Look Like on Film?

Lisha and Jon had their first look tucked into a secluded corner of the garden, private, quiet, with room to actually talk before the day picked up. From there we walked into the wider garden together, no traffic, no rushing between locations the way you might deal with downtown. There were a handful of other visitors around, but nowhere near what you'd run into elsewhere in Vancouver.

Later, as guests started arriving, there was a moment of hugs and greetings with roses surrounding them on every side, giving us a beautiful, layered foreground for the shot. And when a bit of rain moved in, the tree coverage throughout the garden was enough to keep everyone dry without missing a beat.
